Does God ever use hell to motivate you? « Thread Started Yesterday by IG from another message board TMB at 23:04 »

Do you find yourself thinking about Hell and how we need to do everything we can to help others avoid ending up there? Does God ever use Hell to motivate you to get back to doing what you know is right, back to praying, studying, and telling people about the salvation He bought for us?
Is everything you do for God simply out of a love for him or does hell make a difference? Do you even believe in a literal hell?

~~~ N9: Thanks so much for your many good, and thought provoking questions. The TMB has helped me to study and understand my Bible more than before.
2) Do you find yourself thinking about Hell and how we need to do everything we can to help others avoid ending up there? Does God ever use Hell to motivate you to get back to doing what you know is right, back to praying, studying, and telling people about the salvation He bought for us?
~~~ Hell is not a VERY nice place to spend an endless eternity for retirement. Hell is too hot and no air conditioner or fans allowed. .... Raising in a war torn country, death is a wake up called for me to think about God, heaven, and eternity very seriously.
3) Is everything you do for God simply out of a love for him or does hell make a difference? Do you even believe in a literal hell?
~~~ Everything I do for God is out of Love for all the blessings He has given us through His Son unselfish love by going all the way to the Cross of Calvary.
Yes, I believe in a literal hell..... If HELL wasn't real then Jesus wouldn't have come, lived and died to save us Repented Sinners from going there for Eternity.
I won't say that I don't believe in hell, but I rarely think about it. It isn't a motivating factor to me. Unlike what Nathan said, it is not my impression that Jesus came to keep us out of hell, but rather to show us the way to God. Somehow, in my mind, I can't reconcile a loving father as a God who would condemn the sinners to an eternity of hell. People can throw verses at me all they want, but it just doesn't fit my perception of God.
~~~ N9: There are two sides of God..... He is NOT always loving and kind.... You don't want God to show you His angry, MAD side anytime.... The children of Israel in the Old Testament found out the hard way... and most of the adults 20 yrs and over died and did NOT enter the promised land because they tempted and tested His patience.
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, God will give Eternal life. But for those who are self seeking, and who reject! the truth and follow EVIL, there will be wrath and anger. (Roman 2:7,8) NIV.
Yes, I agree with you Brick... Jesus came to show us a better place to live throughout an endless eternity with God than spending in Hell/darkness forever and ever with Satan and his army of demons.
Jesus said to His disciples " In My Father's house there are MANY mansions I go to prepare a place for you.."
Revelation 21:1-5 Then I (John) saw a New heaven and a New earth, for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there was no longer any sea.... God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, or mourning or crying or pains, for the old order of things passed away.... He who overcomes will inherit all this and I will be His God and he will be my son.
2) Hades: Revelation 20:7-10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of buring sulfur, where the beast and the false prophets had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
But the cowardly, the unbeliving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters, and all liars---their place will be in the fiery LAKE of burning sulfur. This is SECOND death!
Verse 13-15 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he has done.
the death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The Lake of fire is Second death. If anyone's name was NOT found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

~~~ N9: I agree it's VERY healthy to stay alert, hold on tighly and stand firm on our hope, faith and Salvation to guard against Unbelief which sometimes is creeping in our minds, hearts, and lives because of circumstances we face.
The author of the epistle to the the Hebrews Christians wrote in Heb. 2:1-3 We must pay more careful attention therefore, to what we have HEARD, so that we do NOT drift away! For if the message spoken by the angels was binding and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, how shall we escape if we IGNORE! such a great Salvation.
This Salvation, which was first announced by the Lord was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.
Hebrews chapter 3. Therefore holy brothers, who share in heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostles and high priests whom we confess.... if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.
So the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice, do NOT harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert. Where your fathers tested and tried me and for 40 years saw what I did.
That was why I angry with that generation, and I said, "their hearts are always going astrayed. And they have NOT known my ways. So I declare on oath in my ANGER, "They shall NEVER enter my rest."
So to it, brothers: that NONE of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that TURNS away from the Living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it it called today. So that NONE of you may be hardened by sins's deceifulness. We have come to share in Christ's if we hold FIRMLY till the END the confidence we had at first.
As has just been said, "Today if you hear His voice, do NOT hardened your hearts, as you did in the rebellion."
Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they NOT all those Moses led out of Egypt? and with whom was he angry for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? And to whom did God swear that they would NEVER enter his rest if NOT to those who disobeyed? so we see that they were NOT able to enter, because of their UNBELIEF!
When we begin to follow Jesus teachings, we are brought up out of mirey clay and a deep pit.....
When we begin to follow Jesus teachings, we are brought up out of mirey clay and a deep pit..... ~~~ Jesus gave us a glimpse of HELL (hades) is a place to which the wicked dead go to await the final judgment. That torment begins in Hades is evident from the plight of the rich man (Luke 16: 19-31).
The location of of Abraham's side is not specific (Paradise?) but it is separated from Hades by an impassable chasm. Abraham's side as the home of the righteous. Refer to the place of blessedness to which the righteous dead (Abraham, Moses, Matthew, Mark, Luke, Paul, and believers) go to await the future vindication. Its bliss is the quality of blessedness reserved for Old Testament believers and New Testament Christians.
Hades includes the torment that characterizes hell (fires, Revelation 20:10; agony, Revelation 14:11; seperation Matthew 8:12) From NIV Bible Study.
As a little boy, I heard preachers talk about Hell, as the place we would go to, if we didn't come to Jesus and make him our personal savior. So I did take Jesus as my Savior, not because I understrood so much what I was doing, but, out of fear of going to Hell. Eventually, I found the Truth and professed. But, in my mind, to this day, I still have a sense that God is a God of Judgement. It is a terrible thing to put fear of God into a child's mind and heart! I believe in a literal Hell. In fact, sometimes, I think hell is here on Earth, considering the experiences and consequences of our choices. Did not even Paul declare his desire to be apart from this present life and be with the Lord. Most churches today preach a gospel of fear, in earlier days, this was true of our workers, as well. Fire & brimstone, was the term. I am glad that the message today is based on the Love of God shown to us, through the gift of his Son, and that we can approach Him not out of fear but of love. That love is unconditional.
