In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song
This beautiful hymn, my favourite, always brings me to tears thinking of what Jesus means to me, absolutely everything!
My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand

RE: hymns "A Tender Heart" and "In Jesus Hands".
It's touching to me to read your words, Joe and Richard. One enters in when remembering how it to experience loss. My Uncle Kenneth (Dissmore) wrote 287. He wasn't a man to show emotion, but those words convey that he knew too what it was to have a "burdened heart", and to "leave it all to Jesus, for I know He understands". I love the verse, also that says: "Someday every eye will see Him, Living, reigning over all; Ev'ry great and might nation, To the Lord will bow and fall."
He loved to tell the gospel story. Perhaps you know he wrote: "Life's Short Day", "The Pages of Life", and "Impelled by Love" in our book, too.

A saying always comes to mind when someone says something about their reactions to things around them. We glorify God in our body by our actions, We glorify God in our spirit by our Reactions. I really like what you both posted David and Joe, The 2 being connected: fruit in us making God's presence known, and how our 'reactions' are really the defining factor.... This morning I awakened thinking of hymn 210. "Gently the Holy Spirit Whispers at break of day.... Guiding my thoughts.... Reproving.... Whispering at close of day.... Casting our cares.... Trusting.... Commiting our all.... How thankful we are that Jesus did not leave us alone. The Spirit interceding for us with groanings that cannot be uttered.... Think too of hymn#2: "More about Jesus" "More about Jesus, Let me learn, More of His Holy will discern; Spirit of God, my teacher be....

"For His sake, reproach esteeming, more than earth's vain show and pomp.... Jesus calls me I am going... forth to Him outside the camp." Just getting a little different slant on this today... Jesus was crucified 'outside the camp' - away from and rejected by the self-righteous religious people of that day. Is our suffering for Jesus sake also outside the 'camp' of self-righteous people - perhaps even within the fellowship - today? Are those who are really suffering 'outside the camp', those who have been reproached, even cast out? Perhaps one day I'll have a clearer picture of this. Just sharing where my thoughts have gone, ever since we sang this Wed. night in meeting. Deanne, Yes, I truly believe there are.... those suffering "outside the camp".... "Laying down their lives.".... regardless of reproach even by some in the the fellowship.... A worker I know explains that "bearing ' or "carrying"one's cross means just that: helping, caring, laying one's life down, for Others.... Sometimes we think bearing the cross means all the things we have to give up, deny ourselves of, but it's more about our attitude toward others, primarily....

I found it impossible to stop with just one Hymn. So ....here are a few of my favorites; 1) #27 - "I cannot help but love Him, because He first loved me". 2) #321 - "Hearts both true and faithful beating, Who for others' needs do move" 3) #271 - "I know not why God's wondrous grace To me He has made known" Often times, the words from a Hymn or Christian song seem to be God speaking directly to my heart.

www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/n/e/nearersn.htmNearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart, Draw me, my Savior—so precious Thou art! Fold me, oh, fold me close to Thy breast. Shelter me safe in that “Haven of Rest”; Shelter me safe in that “Haven of Rest.” Nearer, still nearer, nothing I bring, Naught as an offering to Jesus, my King; Only my sinful, now contrite heart. Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart. Grant me the cleansing Thy blood doth impart. Nearer, still nearer, Lord, to be Thine! Sin, with its follies, I gladly resign, All of its pleasures, pomp and its pride, Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified. Give me but Jesus, my Lord, crucified. Nearer, still nearer, while life shall last. Till safe in glory my anchor is cast; Through endless ages ever to be Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee; Nearer, my Savior, still nearer to Thee! nitro

www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/t/e/teachmet.htmTeach me Thy way, O Lord, teach me Thy way! Thy guiding grace afford, teach me Thy way! Help me to walk aright, more by faith, less by sight; Lead me with heav’nly light, teach me Thy way! When I am sad at heart, teach me Thy way! When earthly joys depart, teach me Thy way! In hours of loneliness, in times of dire distress, In failure or success, teach me Thy way! When doubts and fears arise, teach me Thy way! When storms o’erspread the skies, teach me Thy way! Shine through the cloud and rain, through sorrow, toil and pain; Make Thou my pathway plain, teach me Thy way! Long as my life shall last, teach me Thy way! Where’er my lot be cast, teach me Thy way! Until the race is run, until the journey’s done, Until the crown is won, teach me Thy way! nitro

www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/y/hyouanyr.htmHave you any room for Jesus, He who bore your load of sin? As He knocks and asks admission, Sinners, will you let Him in? Refrain Room for Jesus, King of Glory! Hasten now His Word obey; Swing the heart’s door widely open, Bid Him enter while you may. Room for pleasure, room for business, But for Christ the Crucified, Not a place that He can enter, In the heart for which He died? Refrain Have you any room for Jesus, As in grace He calls again? O today is time accepted, Tomorrow you may call in vain. Refrain Room and time now give to Jesus, Soon will pass God’s day of grace; Soon thy heart left cold and silent, And thy Savior’s pleading cease Whittle was named after American politician Daniel Webster. Whittle reached the rank of major in the American civil war, and for the rest of his life was known as “Major” Whittle. During the war, Whittle lost his right arm, and ended up in a prisoner of war camp. Recovering from his wounds in the hospital, he looked for something to read, and found a New Testament. Though its words resonated with him, he was still not ready to accept Christ. Shortly after, a hospital orderly woke him and said a dying prisoner wanted someone to pray with him. Whittle demurred, but the orderly said, “But I thought you were a Christian; I have seen you reading your Bible.” Whittle then agreed to go. He recorded what took place at the dying youth’s bed side: I dropped on my knees and held the boy’s hand in mine. In a few broken words I confessed my sins and asked Christ to forgive me. I believed right there that He did forgive me. I then prayed earnestly for the boy. He became quiet and pressed my hand as I prayed and pleaded God’s promises. When I arose from my knees, he was dead. A look of peace had come over his troubled face, and I cannot but believe that God who used him to bring me to the Savior, used me to lead him to trust Christ’s precious blood and find pardon. I hope to meet him in heaven. After the war, Whittle became treasurer of the Elgin Watch Company in Chicago, Illinois. In less than 10 years, though, he entered the evangelism field. During this period, he worked with musicians Phillip Bliss and James McGranahan. His daughter May Moody also wrote music for some of his lyrics. Of his decision to devote his life to the Gospel, Whittle said that, while at work, he: …went into the vault and in the dead silence of the quietest of places I gave my life to my Heavenly Father to use as He would. nitro

I love this chorus!
Weak in ourselves we fear the foe But love the path where Jesus trod; Strong in His strength we forward go; Our hope is in the living God.

Emy, re: hymn #24
It is comforting to understand that we CAN'T give who and what we aren't, and that we aren't expected to..... Sometimes I think that's hard to learn. Since we KNOW we aren't worthy, we sometimes think things are hopeless, and we turn away, even withholding ourselves; not remembering/believing that God in His mercy sent His Son to cover all that we lack.
The only thing we CAN do is to give our lives back to Him unreservedly.. I think again of hymn #286 "Though small and mean the gift may be, 'Tis all I have to give to Thee. Accept, I pray The life I give to Thee today, 'Tis Thine, 'Tis Thine Forever I my claim resign."
Then all of God's power is on our side..... Through His Spirit..... As we yield our lives day by day.
I don't know why it took so long for me to understand that that's simply all God asks. And that's How serving Him works.....
Sometimes we resist yielding. But when we do yield. Simply yield, each day, in love, acknowledging Him, there can be So much quiet peace and reassurance. We're not all on own. We have the help of heaven.....
I love your post. I think of God's children all around the world. Simply yielding..... You there. Me here. Another there..... It must bring our Father pleasure. Great pleasure, really..... We are very dear to Him.
And we are glad. And we love Him.

These two verses of two different hymns are always encouraging to me: "Give, it shall to you be given Prove this golden rule is true. Well pressed down and running over, Thus the Lord will give to you." & "Help me Lord, to be wholehearted, Serving Thee with love and zeal, Pouring out my life like Jesus, Who did all Thy will reveal." ~~~ Silverthreads, Have appreciated your post. We heard at sp. mtg.recently about hymn #318. Luke 6:38. NIV "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will it be poured into your lap. For with what measure you use, it will be measured to you." (for lap, the Amplied version says: "the pouch formed by the bosom of your robe and used as a bag.) - [the worker didn't say that part...] Anyway, she explained that: "each supplies his own measure - be it a cup or a tsp. - whatever size. verse 37 says: "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." "If we're forgiven that's the measure we've given. There's no excuse. Can't blame someone else, parents, etc." If we're forgiven that's the measure we've forgiven someone else. If we've judged another, that's the measure God will judge us. When we think of the need to be forgiven - then it's easier to forgive. When I haven't judged, I won't be judged What we give, we will be given - well pressed down (like something in a jar pressed down extra!) well pressed down and running over....... Wonderful these truths, these principles of God. I love to think of that... also, as in: "Seek and you shall find." and "Knock and it shall be opened unto you." To consider the laws of the universe in general. Amazing! n.
