~~~ No, I don't believe that either. Peter, Paul preached alone sometimes. They went in pairs, threesomes, and traveled in larger group.
There has been times worker preached alone because their companions had left the work, or going overseas attending conventions, sick, etc.. most of the time the workers preach in pairs, and sometime threesomes.
2) The reason Jesus sent them in pairs was because for the Jewish nations that they were sent to, nothing was counted accurate or true unless it was established by a witness. That's why it mentions in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word would be established.
~~~ Yes, I agree with you..... However, there is more to it .....
The apostles continue to go in pairs in the book of Acts when they brought the gospel to the Jews and gentiles alike.... Peter and John (Acts 3) Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13) Judas and Silas (Acts 15) Paul and Silas (Acts 15) Barnabas and John Mark..
Paul and Timothy.... Paul and Titus.
Going in pairs part was part of the training/schooling for young apostle=sent ones with older ones such as Paul and Timothy, Silas, Titus, John Mark, Luke, etc...
Barnabas with John Mark....
According to the Vaudois apostles history 70-1800 A.D.
The Vaudois apostles had no property, goods, home or family; if they had these they left them. Their life was one of self-denial, hardship and danger.
The apostles always went "Two and Two" an elder and a younger man of whom the latter waited on the older companion. Their visits were highly esteemed, and they were treated with every token of respect and affection. Their needs being supplied by the believers among them whom they ministered the word.
The older minister on his part, thus made his preparation by training!! for the church successors! worthy of it. His task being accomplished he could die in peace with consolotary assurance of having committed of the sacred trust of the gospel into prudent and zealous hands.
In the annual synod, special gathering, which was held in the valleys of Piedmont (Swiss) inquiries were made concerning the conduct of the ministers and changes of residence, were made among them. Those actually employed in the ministry were exchanged from place to place every 3 years!
Supreme legislative power was vested in the general convention, which met once or twice a year and was orginal compose of the apostles, but a later date only of those senior members among them.
Two of them always exchanged with another, accepted the aged minister, who no longer able. Their maintenance of the absolute authority the word of God, and of the doctrine of Salvation by Jesus Christ. The Vaudois therefore are not schematics, but continued inheritors of the Church found by Jesus and the early apostles.
Very FEW of the Vaudois were married in the ministry and their perpetual missions, their poverty, their missionary tours, their lives spent amidst warfare and danger, make it easy to understand the reason of their CELIBACY!
